Bulldogs and Orioles Split DH

Bulldogs and Orioles Split DH

The Bulldogs split their series ending DH with rival Avon last night winning the first game 4-3 and dropping the night cap 8-4.  Due to the extreme weather, the Bulldogs and Orioles were forced to push last week's Friday and Saturday games to a rare midweek conference doubleheader.

Brandon Reid took the mound for the Bulldogs in game 1 and the first two innings went into the books scoreless.  In the top of the 3rd, the Orioles jumped ahead 1-0 but the Bulldogs snapped back with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning when Cameron Martin scored on a Logan Kabrich single and Kabrich scored when Chase Haynes reached on an error by the Orioles LF.  Avon tacked on 1 more run in the 4th, but were matched by another 2 runs by the Bulldogs as Charlie Brewer was able to drive in Jake Smith and Greg Hughes.  The Orioles pulled within 1 in the 6th but Jaret Starnes entered the game with runners in scoring position and shut the door.  Starnes closed on the 7th and collected his first save of the season.

Game 2 started off quick with the Bulldogs taking the early 1-0 lead when Cameron Martin stole home to take the lead.  Garrett Copley started the game for the Dogs and cruised though the top of the 1st but ran into a little trouble in the second.  In the 2nd, a few walks and some timely errors led to a big 6-run innning for the Orioles bringing the score to 6-1.  The Bulldogs were able to pull within 2 after Chase Haynes scored Cameron Martin in the 3rd, Greg Hughes scored Jake Smith in the 4th and Haynes scored on a passed ball in the 5th.  Unfortunately, the Orioles tacked on 2 more and the Bulldogs were unable to score even though they threatened int he final two innings.

The Bulldogs move to 3-1 (2-1 HCC) and will head to Cascade on Friday night to start the Hendricks County Tournament.
