Bulldogs Open Up Season with a Win

The Bulldogs opened up the 2016 with an exciting 12-4 victory against the visiting South Bend Washington Panthers.  The game started off as a defensive and pitching showcase as the game remained scoreless into the 3rd inning before South Bend opened up the offense with 2 runs in the top half of the 3rd.  The Bulldogs quickly answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning when Logan Kabrich and Greg Hughes reached base and were driven in by a Chase Haynes double off the right field wall.  Tyler Bireley answered with a double off the left field wall that brought in Haynes.  In the 4th the Panthers answered with 2 runs on 2 hits to take the lead back 4-, but that didn't last long.  Haynes and Bireley started the offensive machine rolling again in the 5th with back-to-back doubles to left and were followed with hits RBI hits from Hughes, Kabrich, Brandon Reid, Luis Escalante, Charlie Brewer.  The Bulldogs scored 7 in the inning to bring the score to 10-4.  Sophomore Jordan Jones capped off the scoring in the 6th with a 2-run home run to left in his very first varsity at-bat…an on his very first varsity swing!  Reid, Kabrich, Bireley and Garrett Copley all combined to pitch 6 innings, giving up only 2 earned runs and striking out 11 Panther hitters.  Brandon Reid collected his first varsity win on the mound.
