PREVIEW: Boys' IHSAA Track & Field State Finals

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Boys' Track and Field team is set to take on the 2021 IHSAA Boys' Track and Field State Finals on Friday, Jun 4 at Ben Davis High School. Eight Bulldogs are scheduled to compete for a state title.

John Colquitt figures to be a storyline heading into Friday's meet, as the Brownsburg junior is set to compete in three separate events, with a chance to compete for all three state championships. Colquitt edged out Carmel's Zachary Cox for both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles at the Lafayette Jeff on May 27, with times of 14.07 and 37.61, respectively. Colquitt and Cox have the two fastest seed times in the state.

Colquitt will also compete in the long jump competition, where he also came away as a Regional champion last week at Lafayette Jeff, jumping 22'6.25. That seed ranks sixth in the state coming into Friday's meet.

Haiden Diemer-McKinney follows Colquitt in terms of number of appearances at the state meet with two. Although Diemer-McKinney finished fifth in the 800-meter run last week, his 1:55.36 was faster than state standard, so he will compete at Ben Davis. That seed time places him seventh fastest in the state heading into Friday.

Diemer-McKinney will also compete as part of the 4x400-meter relay team which finished third last week in a time of 3:26.58. The team also includes Justin Petty, Scotty Tienda and Jalen Larkey. The relay's seed time pits them 13th in the state field.

Marcos Barbosa returns to the state finals in the 110-meter hurdles after finishing in 14.96 seconds last week. His time ranks him 15th in Friday's State meet.

Trevor Nolan debuts in the state final meet in his senior year, receiving a call back in the 3200-meter run. Nolan ran 9:24.37 at Lafayette Jeff, which ranks his seed time 13th-best at Ben Davis.

Tyray Lackey will also return to the state final meet in the high jump, after jumping 6'5 at Lafayette Jeff. His regional seed ranks him at a tie for fifth, but his personal best of 6'8 positions him at third in the state meet.

The meet is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. from Ben Davis. For a fee, you can view the state final live from IHSAAtv.org. The cost for the boys' state final does not cover the girls' state final.
