Girls' Track Places 2nd at Sectional Meet

The Girls' Track Team traveled to Plainfield Tuesday night and came up just 10 points short of defeating Avon for the Sectional Championship. Despite narrowly being edged out there were several individual champions and a majority of the girls will be advancing to Regionals next week. Freshman Megan Berry continued her win streak as she continues to dominate the pole vault by placing 1st with a leap of 10ft. Stephanie Mavunga also remained unbeaten during the outdoor season by winning the shot put competition by throwing 40ft, nearly 2ft further than the 2nd place finisher. Sibong Ncube finished the day as sectional champion once again by dominating the 100 hurdles in a very tough field. Finally, Claire Hathaway has already set the freshman record this season, but didn't stop there as she broke the school record in the long jump, not just once, but 3 times during the meet! She eventually finished in 1st with an amazing jump of 17ft 6in. Others advancing to regionals by placing in the top 4 include Britany Newson, Monique Burnes, Flo Akinribade, and Crystal Stowers. Great job ladies!
