GIRLS

It was a close contest Friday night as the Girls' Track Team traveled to Decatur and came away with a 3rd place finish out of 8 teams. The sprinters earned valuable points with Bri Smith placing 2nd in the 200, 4th in the 100, and also taking 3rd place as a member of the 4x100 relay team with Flo Akinribade, Sibong Ncube, and Rocky Sulkoske. Sulkoske also ran a great race to take 3rd in the 100 hurdles. Freshman Courtney Stull dropped her time once again and finished in 2nd place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51 seconds. Freshman pole vaulter Megan Berry continued to dominate the competition by finishing in 1st with a vault of 9 ft. 6 in.  Four distance runners continued to improve as all set new career personal records including Cassidy Brown in the 2 mile with a time of 12:06, Julia Popenfoose in the 1 mile with a time of 5:44, Mackenzie Vondersaar in the 1 mile in 5:53, and Alison Hering also in the mile with a time of 6:04. Senior Stephanie Mavunga grabbed yet another blue ribbon as her throw of nearly 37 ft. was easily the best of the night in the shot put competition. Finally, one huge leap from freshman Claire Hathaway set a new personal record and re-set her own freshman record with a distance of 16 ft. 7 ½ in. in the long jump. Congratulations to these girls and all of their teammates on a great night!
