Baseball Defeats Giants

The Bulldogs brought home a big nonconference when against west side foe Ben Davis last night 8-5.  The Bulldog offense was up and running early in the game as the Dogs jumped on the scoreboard in the first with senior Cameron Martin scoring on a Luis Escalante single.  The Bulldogs were able to generate some excitement in the top of the third with freshmen Kerrington Cross reaching on an infield single and the Dogs loading the bases.  With 2 outs in the inning, Cross stole home to tack on one run and Jordan Jones roped a single up the middle to add another.  In the top of the 4th the Bulldogs added 4 more runs on a Logan Kabrich hit to right and a Garrett Copley double off the wall bringing the score to 7-0.  Senior Brandon Reid pitched for the Bulldogs and kept the Giants scoreless and hitless through 3, before allowing 1 run in the in the 4th to bring the score to 7-1.   In the bottom of the 5th the Giants mounted a small comeback effort, but juniors Sam Hughes and senior Tyler Bireley were able to stomp out the rally after 4 runs.  In the top of the 7th, with the score 7-5 the Dogs added their final run of the night with Matt Copeland scoring on a Michael Oliger single up the middle.  Bireley shut the door in the 7th to earn his first save of the year and the Dogs won with a  final of 8-5.  The Bulldogs will face Avon in the 2nd round of the Hendricks County tournament this Saturday, at home, starting at 1pm.
