Swim/Dive Celebrates Seniors

The Bulldog Swimming & Diving Team celebrated the class of 2014 on Saturday, taking on HCC rival Noblesville on Senior Day. There was plenty of excitement to go around as the 15 Bulldog seniors took their final bow at home. The girls fought hard but fell to the Millers 115-70, while the boys built up a big lead and held off a furious charge to edge Noblesville at the finish line, 92-91.
"Senior Day is full of emotion but competition is often fueled by emotion, and our team came to compete on Saturday," Head Coach Josh Saylor said. "I couldn't be more proud of our seniors. They have meant a lot to our program over the years, and it showed today."
Senior Grace Fulwider was a triple winner on the day, taking individual first places in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke and teaming with senior Tia Scoggan, junior Kierra Watson and sophomore Madison Kehr to win the 200 Medley Relay.
Kehr and Watson were double winners. In addition to their relay victory, Kehr touched first in the 100 Freestyle and Watson won the 100 Backstroke. Fulwider and Scoggan were joined by fellow seniors Delaney Krug and Chloe Wittig for a strong swim in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and freshman Danielle LeClerc held her own against the powerful Miller diving program with a fourth place finish.
Senior Bradley Green had a hand in two victories for the Bulldog boys, who needed every point they could get for their razor thin margin of victory. Green teamed with juniors Joe Ancel and Diego La Torre and sophomore Vince Partlow to win the opening 200 Medley Relay, and Green added a win in the 100 Butterfly later in the meet.
Ancel and Partlow were triple winners on the afternoon, with Ancel winning the 100 Breaststroke, Partlow winning the 200 Individual Medley and both swimmers teaming with juniors Kyle Baney and Cameron Howard to win the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Baney, Howard and La Torre were all double winners. Baney took first in the 200 Freestyle, Howard in the 500 Freestyle and La Torre teamed with Ancel for a 1-2 sweep in the 50 Freestyle.
Senior divers Jacob Rance and Caleb Windler had strong showings on Senior Day, as did classmates Aaron Brooks, Josh Hanlon, Jared Krug, Connor Lucas, Connor Rickard, Donnie Spencer, Jess Stevens and Albert Turk.
"Our seniors have one last job to do for the program, and that's help us put a pair of Sectional championship trophies in the case," Saylor said. "After seeing our team in action today, I think we should all be excited and confident about our chances."
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, February 1, traveling to Zionsville for the HCC Junior Varsity Championships, the first meet of the Championship Season.
