Lady Bulldogs Run Past Southport

The Lady Bulldog track team got its season rolling last night by running past the Cardinals of Southport 75 to 57.  On a breezy, cold day the 4x800 relay team of Veronica Goduto, Rio James, Jenny Gleissner, and Maddie Webster got things warmed up by taking the first event of the evening in 10:32.  Other event winners on the evening were Laura Bess in the 1600 meters in 5:22, Kirsten Gaerke in the 400 meters in 62, Webster in the 800 meters in 2:28, Sydney Lesko in the 3200 meters in 11:44, and the 4x400 relay team of James, Goduto, Haley Johnson, and Kirsten Gaerke in 4:21!  Winners in field events were Kerry Devney in the long jump with a jump of 14' 7.5", and Sibong Ncube in the high jump with a jump of five feet!

A strong team effort and determination pulled down points in almost all other events with Ncube and Sara Tate going second and third in the 100 meter hurdles, Kirsten Gaerke and Megan Cole going second and third in the 100 meters, Lesko and KJ Gaerke going second and third in the 1600 meters to complete the sweep, Gleissner going third in the 400, Bess and Goduto going second and third in the 800 meters to, again, complete the sweep, Kirsten Gaerke and Cole going second and third in the 200 meters, and Jolori Schafer and Kerry Devney going second and third in the 300 meter hurdles.

Others who placed well in the field events were Ryne Carr and Katie Reinhart finishing second and third in the discus, Shay Roberson finishing third in the shot put, Caitlin Dressler finishing second in the high jump, Melissa Duncan finishing second in the long jump, and Elissa Hall finishing third in the pole vault.
