Boys' Soccer bested by two ranked opponents

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg varsity boys' soccer team tested themselves on August 22 with a pair of close losses in matchups against ranked opponents in No. 4 Center Grove and No. 17 Pike.

The Bulldogs played the Trojans tough on their home pitch in the first half, playing to a scoreless tie. However, a slow start to second start put BHS in a 2-0 hole they could not recover from.

The second matchup of the day proved to be a thrilling one. Colin Porath scored a goal in just the third minute of the game to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the day. Then, Pike rode momentum to score 3 goals in the span of 7 minutes, including two in the last 90 seconds of the half. However, the Bulldogs did not concede the loss so easily. Max Harris and Dane Ritchison scored goals within ten minutes of each other to tie up the game. The 17th-ranked Red Devils would reverse the momentum swing with a goal in the 63rd minute that would prove to be the winner. Despite a slew of late pushes from the Bulldogs, Pike held on for the win.

"We had them on their heals in the second half", Coach Brown said. "I hope we realize if we play hard and together we can have success."
