Varsity Boys' Soccer draws vs Plainfield in opener

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Boys' Soccer team opened up their season on August 17 with a 1-1 draw versus Plainfield.

Senior Colin Porath opened up the scoring as the Bulldogs capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity in the 32nd minute. Brownsburg would hold on to the 1-0 advantage over the rest of the first half, leading at the break.

It did not take long for the Quakers to strike back in the second half, however, as Ethan Lewis scored just four minutes after halftime.

Both teams scratched their way to opportunities to take the lead on the suddenly rainy pitch, but neither team could come away with the win. It's the second consecutive year these two teams have drawn in the regular season.

Coach Brown praised junior Sam McCain's role off the bench for the Bulldogs and said the team "didn't quit and will continue to learn and get better". They start the year off 0-0-1.

JV won their match against Plainfield, thanks to two goals from freshman Wesley N'Gbesso and another from junior Jack Clifford.

Both teams will be back in action on August 19 as they travel to Cathedral. JV plays at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow at 7 PM.
