Bulldogs Drop Game to HSE

The Bulldogs dropped the opening game of their HSE series 5-4 in 9 innings.  The Dogs fell behind early giving up 3 runs in the 2ndinning, but battled back over the course of the next few innings.  After the 2nd inning, senior RHP Caleb Sampen held the Royals scoreless into the 8th inning before handing the ball over to senior RHP Michael Klayer.  In the top of the 4th the Dogs scored 1 run when senior Owen Gilbert scored Sampen on a double to right.  The Dogs tied the game in the top of the 6th on another big hit from Gilbert that scored senior Jacson McGowan and Sampen.  In the top of the 8th, the Dogs took the lead when Ryan Schutte (running for McGowan) scored on an Anthony Travelsted single to right.  Unfortunately, the Royals rallied in the bottom of the 8thto tie the game and were able to win in the bottom of the ninth.  The Dogs move to 13-11 (8-8 HCC) and will host the Royals tonight on Senior Night.
