Bulldogs Sweep Tigers

The Bulldogs completed their first conference sweep this past weekend by winning both games over Fishers in a Friday night doubleheader.  The first game of the evening was a nail biter and came down to the very last inning before the Bulldogs were able to win the game 6-5.  The Dogs opened up the scoring with 1 in the bottom of the first, but Fishers quickly rallied back to score 2 in the top of the second.  In the bottom of the second, the Dogs were able to put up 4 on an Anthony Travelsted single that scored 2 and a Jacson McGowan 2-run home run (his first of the season).  The Tigers wouldn't quit, scoring 2 more before the Bulldogs had to remove their starter and go to sophomore RHP Logan Kabrich in the top of the 3rd.  Kabrich was able to stomp out the rally and went 3 2/3 innings only allowing 1 run.  Kabrich and the Bulldogs entered the 7th inning all tied up with Fishers getting the lead off runner quickly on base.  The Dogs brought in senior RHP Michael Klayer and he retired 3 out of the next 4 batters to end the inning.  In the bottom of the 7th, the Bulldogs were able to push across the winning run after a couple timely walks and a game winning RBI hit from senior Andrew Dishinger.

Game two of the doubleheader played out a little differently with the Bulldogs breaking out the bats and senior RHP Travis Mears pitching a 5-inning, 1-hit shutout to win the game 10-0.  The Dogs scored 10 runs on 9 hits from 7 different players highlighted by home runs from Anthony Travelsted and Travis Mears.  With the bats red hot on offense, Mears cruised on the mound allowing 1 hit and striking out 6 Tigers in only 5 innings.  Offensive leaders for the series for the Bulldogs were: Jacson McGowan (5-8, 1 HR, 1 2B, 2 RBIs, 6 Runs, 4 BBs); Owen Gilbert (2-9, 4 RBIs); Travis Mears (3-9, 1 HR, 1 2B, 2 RBIs) and Andrew Dishinger (3-10, 3 RBIs *game winning) The Bulldogs move to 9-4 (5-1 HCC)
