Bulldog Down the Giants

Bulldog Down the Giants

It took extra innings, but the Bulldogs pulled out a tough 11-10 victory over the Ben Davis Giants.  The Giants pulled ahead early scoring 1 run in the first inning but the Dogs quickly jumped back on top 3-1 behind big hits from senior C Brooks Bireley, senior 2B Brad Guilinger, and senior P/3B Andrew Dishinger.  In the 3rd inning, the Giants were able to pull even with the Dogs before the slugfest really began.  In the 5th the Bulldogs tacked on three runs behind a big RBI triple by junior DH Chase Haynes and in the 6th, a clutch hit from senior OF Michael Klayer and senior 1B Owen Gilbert's second HR of the season took the score to 10-5.  However, some timely hits and a couple defensive miscues in the 6th and 7th allowed the Giants to tie the game and push it into extra innings.  In the 8th, Klayer provided a huge two-out, RBI single which allowed senior P/SS Caleb Sampen to come in and collect the save with a 3-up-3-down bottom of the 8th.  Dishinger was sharp in his first varsity start, giving the Dogs 4 innings before handing the ball over to sophomore Logan Kabrich.  Kabrich threw 3 solid innings collecting the win and Sampen earned the save.  The Bulldogs move to 3-3 (2-1 HCC)
