Bulldogs Drop 2 on Opening Weekend

The Bulldogs got off to a rocky start this season dropping both games of their 2015 season-opening doubleheader.  In game 1 the Bulldogs faced off against the Roncalli Rebels and lost by the score of 6-2.  In game 2, the Bulldogs lost to former HCC foe Lafayette Jefferson by the score of 13-6.  With it being the first two games of the season, the Bulldogs used a wealth of pitchers in the two game set.  Game 1 saw seniors Caleb Sampen, Matt Rollyson and Michael Klayer take the bump alongside sophomore Logan Kabrich making his varsity debut.  The four pitchers only allowed 4 ERs, but a few mistakes in the field and some quiet bats at the plate led to a season opening loss. Game 2 saw seniors Triston Polley and Travis Mears along with Rollyson getting a second appearance and junior Chase Haynes making his varsity debut on the mound.  Unfortunately, some walks, untimely errors and quiet bats again doomed the Bulldogs in the loss.    At the plate, senior Anthony Travelsted led the Dogs on the day going 3/6 with 1 RBI and 1 HR.  Mears was also a hot bat, he was 3/7 on the day with a triple and an RBI.  Sampen added a HR going 2/6 on the day with 2 RBIs.  Haynes led the Bulldogs in RBIs witha 3-run HR in game 2 that put the Dogs ahead before Lafayette Jefferson was able to battle back.  Defensively, the Dogs were led by senior 2B Brad Guilinger's 6 assists and 3 putouts.  The Bulldogs (0-2, 0-0 HCC) will be back in action on Wednesday evening at Ben Davis High School.
