Westfield Sweeps Bulldogs

The Bulldogs lost some of the momentum they gained from a conference sweep the week before by dropping a three game set to Westfield this past weekend.  In games 1 and 2 of the series the Bulldogs were unable to get anything going at the plate and were unable to push a run across the plate against a very stingy Westfield defense.  In game 3, the Dogs showed a little life at the plate scoring 4 runs to match Westfield in the bottom of the 5th, but a 2-run home run by the Shamrocks was all they needed to put the Bulldogs away in game 3.  Seniors Caleb Sampen, Triston Polley and Travis Mears all started on the mound for the Dogs and gave the team a chance to win, but untimely errors and a lack of offense plagued the team all weekend.  Senior LHP Matt Rollyson and junior RHP Chase Haynes threw scoreless innings in their appearances in game 1 and game 2, respectively.  At the plate, senior RF Anthony Travelsted was the only Bulldog to have a multi-hit game, going 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs in game 3.  The Bulldogs moved to 9-6 on the season and move back a spot into a three-way tie for second place in the HCC.
