Softball Competes at Carmel Invite
Brownsburg's Varsity Softball team faced some fierce competition at the weekend's Carmel Invite. The Bulldogs defeated a tough Huntington North High School (7-6) and fell to Carmel (6-5) and Munster High School (4-2). The Bulldogs' record moves to 9-8 on the season.
The Bulldogs came out swinging early against the Carmel Greyhounds. They had momentum throughout the game, but a late Greyhound rally was more than the Bulldogs could handle. Offensively, Jessica Blystone was 'on the ball' going 3-3 at the plate with a double and a sacrifice. Carlie Weaver was 2-4 with a HR and 2 RBI's. Meanwhile, Taylor Mendenhall stepped up contributing 2 hits a RBI.
After falling short to Carmel, Brownsburg came out strong defeating 4A #15 Huntington North (7-6). Jessica Doctor pitched a complete game for the win with a season high 14 strike outs. Jessica was also 2-2 at the plate with a single, double and a walk. Ally Carver was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Taylor Mendenhall was 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Carlie Weaver continued her hot streak at the plate going 2-4 with a Double and a HR. Karly Dickison also had a 2 RBI double.
After an impressive offensive performance over Huntington North, Brownsburg struggled at the plate against Munster High School. After holding the Bulldogs to three hits, Munster defeated the Bulldogs 4-2. Taylor Mendenhall was 1-1 with a single, RBI and sacrifice. Carlie Weaver was 1-3 with an RBI and Jessica Blystone was 1-2 with a walk and run scored. Brownsburg was able to manufacture 2 runs on three hits, but it wasn't enough to close for the victory.
Brownsburg will travel to Lafayette Jefferson on Tuesday hoping to improve their record to 10-8
