Girls Softball Goes 2-0 In Weekend Play

Over the weekend, the varsity softball team got two great wins over a good Edgewood team.  In the first game, the girls came on strong, turning a double play to start things off defensively and then scoring four runs in the first two innings to support a nice performance by Kayle Comer on the mound.  Shayne Zoller and Krystal Shirrell led the way offensively with two hits apiece, and Shirrell and Astrid Koose each had two RBI to help the Dogs to a 4-2 win.

In the second game, the Dogs were again set up by good pitching, this time by Rachel Fiscus and her eight strikeouts.  Zoller and Shirrell stayed hot at the plate and Kelsey Case put the team on top for good with her two-run homer in the fourth, helping the Dogs to a 3-1 victory.  Solid defense helped the Dogs out of several jams throughout the afternoon, highlighted by the consistent play of Sarah Callis in right field and Katie Mingus at second.  The girls are set to take on Lafayette Jeff at home this Tuesday at 6:00.  Grab a friend and a boat and come cheer them on as they look to get their first conference win of the season.
