Bulldogs swim to 2nd Place Finish

The Bulldog Swimming Team took a break from intense winter training on Friday and traveled to West Lafayette for the Harrison Invitational. The Bulldogs gathered 17 top 5 finishes, and finished second overall to state powerhouse Westfield. 

Junior Madeline Ketchem provided leadership for the Bulldog girls, finishing second in the 200 Butterfly, third in the 400 IM and teaming with senior Elizabeth Ancel, junior Erin Miller and sophomore Grace Fulwider for a runner-up finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

Fulwider recorded a strong individual finish of third in the 200 Breaststroke, and teamed with Ketchem, sophomore Chloe Wittig and freshman Kierra Watson to finish fourth in the 400 Medley Relay. Wittig was fourth in the 1,000 Freestyle, and Ancel, Miller, Watson and Wittig finished fourth in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The Bulldog boys were led by Diego LaTorre, who continued his impressive freshman campaign by finishing second in the 50 Freestyle, fourth in the 200 Backstroke and leading his teammates to a pair of third place relay finishes.

LaTorre teamed with junior Kasey Cross and freshmen Joe Ancel and Kyle Baney for third in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and teamed with seniors Brian Collins, Joel Paquin and Joe Perkins for third in the 400 Freestyle Relay. 

Collins recorded top 5 finishes in the 200 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly, Ancel finished fourth in the 200 Breastroke, and Cross (200 Butterfly), Paquin (1,000 Freestyle) and Perkins (100 Freestyle) finished fifth in their respective events.

The 400 Medley Relay team of Ancel, Baney, Cross and Paquin finished fourth overall.

The Bulldog Boys & Girls Swimming & Diving teams encourage all their fans to welcome in the New Year by cheering on the Bulldogs against conference rival McCutcheon on Tuesday, January 3 (2012!) at 6 p.m. at the Bulldog Aquatic Center.
