Bulldogs Clip Eagle's Wings
The varsity baseball team beat Zionsville last night 12-5. The Dogs got off to a sluggish start, falling down 2-0 in the first inning. In the second inning, with one out, the Bulldogs put together a rally that started with a Hunter Leum sacrifice bunt that moved Sam Comer and Cody Gill into scoring position. Caleb Sampen and Garrett Isch followed that with back-to-back RBI singles. After a Mike Hartnagel walk, junior Tyler Houston hit a Grand Slam to centerfield that opened the score up to 6-2. The Eagles battled back to a 2 run deficit before a 4 run 5th opened up the game for the Dogs. Offensively, the Dogs were led by Tyler Houston (2-4), Hunter Leum (2-2), Mike Hartnagel (2-3), and Cody Gill (2-3). Junior lefty Ty McCoy recorded the win going 4 2/3 innings, his sixth of the season. Senior Dalton Carter got the Bulldogs out of a jam in the 5th which brought out senior closer Haden Shipman to finish the game. Shipman threw 2 scoreless innings to end the game. The Bulldogs move to 12-8 on the season and play the Eagles again tonight at Zionsville.
