Basevall Splits Double Header with Royals

The varsity baseball team split a weekend doubleheader with HCC opponent Hamilton Southeastern to move to 5-4 on the season.  In the first game of the DH the Dogs jumped out to an early lead on a Mike Hartnagel solo-HR to right on the first pitch of the game.  The Bulldogs added 2 more that inning to jump to a 3-0 lead.  The Royals fought back to take the lead 5-4 in the 3rd inning, only to have the Bulldogs jump back on top behind the offensive onslaught of Tyler Houston, Haden Shipman (2-Run HR) and Hunter Leum.  Sophomore Caleb Sampen started the game and worked 2 2/3 innings before senior Dalton Carter entered and shut down the Royals for the remainder of the game.  The Bulldogs won by a score of 8-4.  In the second game of the DH, the Bulldogs again jumped out to an early lead of 4-1 behind the offense of Mike Hartnagel and Hunter Leum; however, the Royal were able to put together a couple big innings in the 3rd and 4th to take the lead 6-4 on the Dogs.  Tyler Westrich put the Bulldogs back in a tie with the Royal with an RBI single and some fancy baserunning, but the Royals were able to put 3 more on the board in the 6th innings.  David LeClerc started the game and worked 3 2/3 innings and junior Trent Kabrich worked the remainder of the game.  The Bulldogs have a busy week this week with 3 HCC opponents and two nonconference foes
