Boys' & Girls' XC Opens Season

The boys' cross country team opened their season yesterday with a hokum karum relay race at Fishers High School. The host team won the meet, while the Bulldogs narrowly missed second-place by one point to Mount Vernon High School. Leading the way for Brownsburg was the tandem of Elijah Wagner and Hari Sathyamurthy with a fourth-place finish. Marcus Fierek and Seth Webster ran to a ninth place finish, followed by the pair of Shane Bonness and Devin Boone. Also running strong races for the Dogs were Michael Powell, Colter Kaneversky, and Michael Breckler.

The girls' cross country team opened the season with a convincing win over the Marauders of Mt. Vernon on Monday evening. Pairing up with partners in a Hokum Karem style meet the Bulldogs took 4 of the 5 top spots. Leading the way was the senior duo of Julia Popenfoose and Cassidy Brown as they put up solid mile times while running all alone well out front of the race with an average pace of 6:15 over the 4 miles. Freshman Sydni Montgomery and Junior Brooke U'Ren were close behind as the 3rd place pair, also showing some great early season speed. It was also a big day for some other new faces as Freshmen Jessica Morris and Kierstyn U'Ren teamed up to be the team's number 3 team, while Freshman Emily Truax teamed up with Sophomore Olivia Zoog to come in right behind showing the season is looking bright for the new editions as they made immediate contributions. Great job to these girls and the entire team on a great opening meet. Keep working hard and best of luck Saturday at Plainfield!
