Several Bulldog Swimmers Advance to State Meet

The Bulldog Boys Swimming & Diving Team will be well represented in the State finals, advancing two relays and one individual after a record setting day of swimming on Saturday. The Dogs hosted the IHSAA Sectional at the Bulldog Aquatic Center and finished second to state power North Central, breaking four school records and crowning one Sectional champion in the process.

Freshman Joe Myhre touched the wall first in the 100 Backstroke for his first career Sectional title, and set a new school record in 53.64. Myhre had a hand in another school record on the day, teaming with junior Bradley Green and sophomores Joe Ancel and Kyle Baney to set a new standard in the 200 Medley Relay (1:39.13), finishing second behind North Central. Myhre will advance to the State finals in the 100 Backstroke, as will the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay. The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Baney, Green, Myhre and freshman Vince Partlow finished second overall, narrowly missing the school record. Myhre also finished fourth individually in the 200 Freestyle.

Ancel and Partlow also set new Brownsburg records on Saturday. Ancel finished second in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:00.93, breaking his own record that he set on Thursday. Partlow was third in the 500 Freestyle in 4:44.78, smashing the old school record by nearly 4 seconds. Ancel (200 IM) and Partlow (200 Freestyle) each recorded an additional sixth place finish individually, and teamed with junior Grant Anspach and sophomore Diego La Torre for second in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

In additional top individual finishes, Anspach was fourth in the 500 Freestyle and fifth in the 200 Freestyle, Baney was third in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 Freestyle, Green was second in the 100 Butterfly and fifth in the 100 Backstroke and La Torre was fifth in the 50 Freestyle and seventh in the 100 Freestyle.

Junior Jared Krug finished eighth in the 50 Freestyle and junior Donnie Spencer finished sixth in the 100 Butterfly and seventh in the 100 Breaststroke. Sophomores Jimmy Breedlove (eighth, 100 Backstroke), Hunter Dahlke (14th, 100 Breaststroke), Chad Hale (ninth, 500 Freestyle) and Adam Moll (11th, 100 Butterfly) also had excellent individual finishes on Saturday.

The Bulldog divers were led by senior Grason Horvath, who wrapped up an outstanding career by finishing seventh in diving. Freshman Logan Hannie finished tenth overall while junior Kyle Johnson finished 12th.

The IHSAA State Final preliminaries begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 22 at the IUPUI Natatorium. The top 16 finishers from prelims in each event advance to finals on Saturday, February 23 beginning at 1 p.m.
