Boys' & Girls' Swim/Dive Wraps up 2012 with 2nd Place Finishes

The Bulldog Boys & Girls Swimming & Diving Team wrapped up a successful 2012 with an outstanding performance at the Lafayette Harrison Endurance Invitational and the Raider Diving Invitational on Friday at Purdue University. The team won a total of seven events in the 10 team invitational format and set three new meet records on their way to runner-up finishes behind conference rival Westfield.
Freshman Joe Myhre had a hand in all three meet records. Myhre teamed with junior Bradley Green and sophomores Joe Ancel and Kyle Baney to easily clear the meet record in the 400 Medley Relay with their winning time of 3:41.91. Ancel and Myhre teamed with sophomore Diego La Torre and Vince Partlow to win the 200 Freestyle Relay in record time (1:31.59) and Myhre also set an individual record by winning the 50 Freestyle in 22.25. The time erased former Brownsburg standout Kevin Enders meet record from 2005.
In other individual action, Baney and La Torre finished 1-2 in the 100 Freestyle, Green picked up a victory in the 200 Backstroke and junior Grant Anspach finished second in the 200 Freestyle.
The Bulldog girls were led by senior Madeline Ketchem and junior Grace Fulwider, both individual winners on the day. Ketchem touched the wall first in the 200 Butterfly while Fulwider cruised to victory in the 200 Breaststroke.
Fulwider and Ketchem also chipped in a pair of runner-up relay finishes, teaming with sophomore Kierra Watson and freshman Madison Kehr in the 400 Medley Relay and later teaming with Kehr and freshman Piper Lovett for second in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Lovett and Watson teamed with senior Kristin Verpe and junior Chloe Wittig for fifth place in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
In the diving pool, seniors Grason Horvath and Paige Jones, junior Kyle Johnson and freshman Logan Hannie took on a deep field from around the state. All of the Bulldog divers gained valuable experience in the 11 dive meet by surviving the first elimination round. Horvath would advance to finals and finish 11thoverall.
The Bulldogs will kick off the New Year on Thursday, January 3, traveling to McCutcheon for a 6pm coed contest with the Mavericks.
Thanks to all of our fans who traveled to West Lafayette for the meet! We hope to see you out in force again on January 3!
