Sectional Champions!

The boys varsity baseball team brought home a sectional championship this past weekend by beating Southport and Avon.  In the morning game the Bulldogs played Southport and won 11-1 in 6 innings.  Junior Ty McCoy pitched the entire game, struck out 5 Cardinal hitters and only allowed one earned run in his 7th victory of the season.  Offensively, the Dogs were hot early scoring runs in each of the first four innings.  Sophomore Jacson McGowan led the charge going 2-3 on the day with a home run, a double, and 3 RBI's.  Junior Cody Gill went 2-3 with a run scored, and Junior Tyler Houston and senior Kyle Yeager both went 1-2 for the game.

The night game was a little more slow moving with two 30 minute weather delays, but the Bulldogs were  able to overcome the break in action.  Junior Tyler Houston threw a complete game, struck out four hitters, and only allowed two earned runs in his 5th victory of the season.  On the offensive side it took the Bulldogs a little longer to get things going.  The Dogs were held scoreless through two innings until a Tyler Houston double to centerfield put the Dogs up 3-0 in the 3rd.  In the bottom of the 3rd Avon scored one to bring the score to 3-1.  The game stayed there until the Orioles brought a run across in the 6th to make it 3-2.  In the 7th inning, the Dogs were able to scratch a run across right before a brief downpour halted the game for 30 minutes.  Immediately following the rain delay, sophomore Anthony Travelsted hit a three-run triple to right field to make the score 7-2.  In the bottom of the 7th, Houston retired the side for the sectional champtionship.  Offensive stars on the evening were Travelsted (1-1, one 3B and 3 RBI's); Caleb Sampen (1-3, 1 Run Scored); and Houston (1-3, 2 Runs Scored).

The Bulldogs will play Terre Haute North in the first game of the regional championship this Saturday at Avon High School
