Bulldogs Go 1-1 vs. Lafayette Jefferson

The varsity baseball team split a doubleheader with the conference leading Lafayette Jeff Bronchos this past weekend. On Friday night, the Bulldogs hosted the Bronchos and jumped out to an early 4-1 lead behind the offense of Mike Hartnagel, Tyler Houston, Hunter Leum and Garrett Isch. The Bulldogs continued to tack on a few runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to bring the final score to 7-1. Junior Ty McCoy pitched the first complete game of the year to move his record to 4-2 on the season.

On Saturday morning up in Lafayette the Bulldogs looked like they were going to stay hot for game two with back-to-back triples by Mike Hartnagel and Tyler Houston that opened up an early 2-0 lead. Senior Dalton Carter received the nod for the game and worked into the fourth inning holding the Bronchos scoreless. In the fourth, a few timely hits lead to a big rally by Lafayette Jeff before junior Trent Kabrich was able to get the Dogs out of the jam. Sophomore Caleb Sampen finished the game as the Bronchos were able to sneak just enough runs across to beat the Dogs and split the series, the Dogs lost 5-4 and move to 10-7 on the season. This week is a busy travel week for the Bulldogs as they have to head to Lafayette twice this week to face off against the Harrison Raiders and the McCutcheon Mavericks.
