After a convincing 52-33 win against Shelbyville over the weekend, the Brownsburg boys varsity team will head to the northwest side of Indy to take on the Pike Red Devils on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.

The Bulldogs improved their record to 15-3, and remain with a 4-1 record in HCC play.

Bulldog Bits

  • Brownsburg remains in front of the HCC standings, with a charging Hamilton Southeastern team right behind at 4-2, and on a 9-game winning streak.
  • Saturday's win against Shelbyville was the 9th win by 15 points or more by the Bulldogs.
  • Junior Pierce Thomas led the Bulldogs in scoring for the 3rd-straight game with 13.
  • Junior Tyray Lackey showed his scoring ability by adding 11 points, his 2nd-best scoring performance of the season.
  • The Bulldogs are 1-2 against MIC opponents this season, with losses against Lawrence North and Carmel, and a win against Ben Davis.
  • This will be Brownsburg's 4th mid-week game of the season, going 3-0 in the previous mid-week games.
  • After Pike, the Bulldogs will have conference games against Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern before ending the season at Center Grove.

Scouting Pike

The Red Devils have put together a solid team this season, with a 14-5 record to show for it. They came into the Feb. 4th AP poll right behind Brownsburg at No. 10, and are ranked No. 16 in the IBCA Coaches' poll. For having such a strong record, their struggles have come in their own conference. The Red Devils are 1-3 in MIC play this season, standing at 7th in the conference, behind 8-10 Ben Davis, and 9-8 North Central. Pike is coming off their worst loss of the season to Decatur Central 76-54, being held to shooting just 35% from the field.

Pike is led by their star senior Davion Bailey, who is averaging over 15 points per game. Bailey has been getting interest from low-level Division 1 college basketball programs after averaging just 7.2 points per game a season ago. Junior Edward Jones also adds to the scoring effort, averaging 10.7 points per game.

Series History

The overall series record shows Pike leading with 13 wins, compared to Brownsburg's 6 since playing in the '93-'94 season. The Bulldogs have taken the last 2 matchups, including last year's close 69-65 win at Varsity Fieldhouse. The Red Devils knocked out the Bulldogs in the 2014 regional semi-final 57-42, Steve Lynch's first season with Brownsburg.
