Dygert Owen claims UCI Road Time Trial World Championship

Brownsburg High School alum and 2016 U.S. Olympic cycling silver medalist Chloe Dygert Owen won the Women's Elite Individual time trial at the UCI Road World Championship on Tuesday. Dygert-Owen is the youngest time trial winner in the history of road cycling's world championship. She claimed the title by the largest-ever margin. 

With a time of 42 minutes and 11.57 seconds, Dygert Owen finished the 18.8 mile race more than a minute-and-a-half ahead of second and third place riders Anna van der Breggen and Annemiek van Vleuten of the Netherlands. The previous record for margin of victiry was was 71 seconds. 

Dygert Owen, just, 22 years old, is already a five-time world champion in track cycling and is coming off a gold medal performance at the Pan America games last month in Peru. She will compete for another world championship in the UCI Women's Elite Road Race on Saturday. 

After her performance in Rio at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Dygert Owen will be a name to watch come the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
