By Sam Weiderhaft

The Brownsburg boys varsity team will return to Varsity Fieldhouse on Saturday to match-up with Shelbyville at 2:30 PM.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 14-3 overall record, and are 4-1 in HCC play.

Basketball Day Indiana

This Saturday marks the 4th annual "Basketball Day Indiana" run by Fox Sports. The event includes 27 consecutive hours of basketball programming on Fox Sports Indiana and the Fox Sports Go app. Varsity Fieldhouse will be hanging the "Basketball Day" banner in honor of the event, which is mainly taking place at the Memorial Gymnasium in Kokomo, and Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. HCC rivals Westfield and Fishers will be playing each other in Kokomo at 4:30 PM on Fox Sports Indiana. Fans can join in the event all day by using #BasketballDayIndiana to join the conversation.

Bulldog Bits

  • Saturday's 2:30 PM tip-off is just the 2nd afternoon tip for the Bulldogs this season.
  • The Bulldogs came in at #9 this week in the AP poll after dropping a game against Zionsville and beating Terre Haute South. Their highest ranking this season has been #4.
  • After leading 24-18 at half at Zionsville, Brownsburg gave up 24 2nd half points, scoring just 15 of their own.
  • The loss to Zionsville on Friday was Brownsburg's first conference loss of the season. They still lead the conference, with Hamilton Southeastern following behind at 4-2.
  • The Purple and White got back on track Saturday at Terre Haute South, dominating 61-36.
  • Terre Haute South shot just 28 percent from the field. The 36 points scored was the 2nd lowest given up by Brownsburg this season.
  • Pierce Thomas led the scoring charge both games last weekend, scoring 18 against Zionsville, 20 against Terre Haute South.
  • The Bulldogs own a 5-1 home record this season, with their only home loss coming against Carmel on Jan. 25th.

Scouting Shelbyville

The Golden Bears have been through a lot of change this season, posting an 8-9 record so far. Eight-year head coach Ryan Mack suddenly resigned in the middle of the season just a few weeks ago, citing "personal reasons." Mack resigned just before their game at Columbus East, where John Hartnett Jr. took over and won, 65-61. The Golden Bears are 2-2 since Hartnett took over head coaching duties.

Shelbyville currently sits at 4th in the Hoosier Heritage Conference standings, with a 3-2 record. They have a 4-3 road record, and are coming off a 56-49 win at 2A Triton Central on Jan. 29th. 7 of their 8 wins have come by single digits.

Series History

This is the first time since at least the '93-'94 season that these two teams have played. The Golden Bears have played one game against a HCC opponent this season, losing 63-36 at Franklin Central in December.
