12-1 @bhsdogsbhoops Return Home to Face Westfield, Carmel

The Brownsburg boys varsity basketball team will return to Varsity Gym for the first time since December 28 to face Westfield on Friday and Carmel on Saturday. Both tips will be at 7:30 PM. Westfield will be the Bulldog's fourth HCC matchup of the season, while Carmel comes from the MIC. 

Brownsburg comes into the weekend with a 12-1 overall record, and 3-0 in HCC play.

Bulldog Bits

  • Brownsburg remained at #4 in this week's AP poll
  • 12-1 is the best opening season stretch for the Bulldogs since they started 14-1 in the '03-'04 season under former head coach Jimmie Howell, ending that season 18-4 after losing in the first round of sectionals.
  • Brownsburg enters the weekend on an 8 game win streak, their largest streak since '17-'18. That 8 game win streak ended against Carmel. 
  • The Bulldogs lead the HCC, with Westfield and Fishers trailing behind, both at 2-1 in conference.
  • Senior Connor Lucas scored a career-high 25 points in the 61-45 win against Fishers last Friday. His previous high was 21 on January 7th against Tri-West.
  • Junior Luke Lacey continues to distribute the ball well, collecting 5 assists in each of the last 3 games.
  • The Purple and White went 8-15 from 3 point range at Fishers, good for 53 percent.
  • The Bulldogs have won their 12 games by an average of 14.7 points.

 

Scouting Westfield

The Shamrocks enter Friday with a 9-2 overall record and 2-1 in HCC play, good for 2nd in the conference. Starting off their season 8-0, their win streak came to a halt with a 53-44 loss against Carmel, following with a 65-47 loss against Hamilton Southeastern. They got back on track last Saturday, winning 75-68 over #6 Lafayette Jeff. 

The Green and Gold showed up at #9 in this week's AP poll. They are led by 5'10 sophomore Braden Smith, who averages 20.1 points per game. Smith has scored over 20 points in five games, including 27 in Westfield's last game against Lafayette Jeff.  

Series History

The Bulldogs have dominated the series since the '96-'97 season with a 18-5 record against the Shamrocks. Westfield has dropped three straight against the Bulldogs, with their last win coming on January 22, 2016 by the score of 47-38 at Varsity Gym. 

 

Scouting Carmel

The Greyhounds post a 7-4 record on the season, with a 2-1 MIC record. They currently sit at 3rd in the conference behind Lawrence North and Lawrence Central. The defending 4A state champions will have another MIC game against Pike on Friday night, before visiting Varsity Gym on Saturday.

Carmel has had four overtime games in their 11 games played this season. They lost a heartbreaker in their last game against Cathedral 63-60 in OT. Their overtime record is 2-2. Besides a 67-41 blowout against Lawrence Central, Carmel has lost three of their games by just over four points. 

The 6'4 sophomore Pete Suder leads the Greyhounds with 13.3 points per game. 

Series History

Carmel leads the series with a 15-6 record against Brownsburg since the '93-'94 season. During the Greyhound's '18-'19 state title season, they went 26-1, with their lone loss coming against the Bulldogs 52-50 on January 19, 2019. The last time these two met at Varsity Gym was January 20, 2018, with the Greyhounds routing the Bulldogs 62-32.
