Girls' Hoops Opens Season with Win

The Varsity Girls' Basketball team opened the season with a nice win over Decatur Central, 62-38.  The Dogs' jumped out quickly in the first quarter, scoring 18 points in the first 8 minutes of action.  The Dogs were up 18-6.  Decatur stepped it up in the second quarter, outscoring the Dogs by 3.  The Dogs went into halftime up 32-23.  The Dogs came out of the locker room fired up and ready to play D.  The defense held Decatur to just 15 second half points.

It was a great team effort by a young squad.  Junior, Aliyah Walker scored a game high 24 points, pulled down a game high 20 rebounds and had 3 blocks!  Sophomore, Devin Courtney added 14 points (a perfect 5 of 5 from 2 point range)  and pulled down 5 boards.  Sophomore Reilly Olmstead chipped in 7 points, dished out 2 assists and had 2 steals.  Senior Hannah Linville and Daija Middlebrook filled up the stat sheet with a combined 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

It was great to have Junior Zhane Roper back on the court after sitting last season out due to injury. Zhane did a great job handling the point, dishing out 3 assists.  The Dogs will travel to Ben Davis to face an always physical Giants' squad on Saturday night .
