Girls' Hoops Opens Season with Win
The Varsity Girls' Basketball team opened the season with a nice win over Decatur Central, 62-38. The Dogs' jumped out quickly in the first quarter, scoring 18 points in the first 8 minutes of action. The Dogs were up 18-6. Decatur stepped it up in the second quarter, outscoring the Dogs by 3. The Dogs went into halftime up 32-23. The Dogs came out of the locker room fired up and ready to play D. The defense held Decatur to just 15 second half points.
It was a great team effort by a young squad. Junior, Aliyah Walker scored a game high 24 points, pulled down a game high 20 rebounds and had 3 blocks! Sophomore, Devin Courtney added 14 points (a perfect 5 of 5 from 2 point range) and pulled down 5 boards. Sophomore Reilly Olmstead chipped in 7 points, dished out 2 assists and had 2 steals. Senior Hannah Linville and Daija Middlebrook filled up the stat sheet with a combined 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
It was great to have Junior Zhane Roper back on the court after sitting last season out due to injury. Zhane did a great job handling the point, dishing out 3 assists. The Dogs will travel to Ben Davis to face an always physical Giants' squad on Saturday night .
