Girls Swim/Dive has Strong Showing at Sectionals

The Bulldog Girls Swimming & Diving Team rolled out an impressive performance in the opening round of the State Tournament on Thursday night at Ben Davis, advancing 12 swimmers and all three relay teams to Saturday's finals of the IHSAA Sectional.
The Dogs 200 Medley Relay team will enter Saturdays finals as the top seed, with the quartet of senior Elizabeth Ancel, junior Madeline Ketchem and sophomores Grace Fulwider and Tia Scoggan posting the fastest time of 1:57.34.
Fulwider, Ketchem and sophomore Chloe Wittig all earned 2nd place seeds for finals. Fulwider finished the preliminary round in 2nd place in the 100 Breaststroke, Ketchem in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly and Wittig in the 200 & 500 Freestyle.
Earning additional "Championship Final" (top 8 swimmers from prelims) positions were Ancel in the 50 Freestyle (6th); senior Emily Young in the 100 Breaststroke (5th); junior Erin Miller in the 50 & 100 Freestyle (7th in both); sophomore Anna Miller in the 500 Freestyle (8th); sophomore Tia Scoggan in the 100 Backstroke (6th) and freshman Kierra Watson in the 100 Butterfly (5th).
Earning "Consolation Final" (9-16 place finishers from prelims) positions were sophomore Delaney Krug in the 200 IM and 100 Freestyle, freshman Olivia Beard in the 200 Freestyle and freshman Brianna LaPaugh in the 500 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke. And qualifying for alternate positions were freshmen Ashly Kraatz in the 100 Backstroke and Emily Kraatz in the 100 Butterfly.
The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Krug, Anna Miller, Erin Miller and Wittig qualified 3rd for Saturdays finals, while the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Ancel, Beard, Krug and Erin Miller qualified 5th.
IHSAA Sectional finals will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 4 at Ben Davis High School.
