Swimmers Bring Home 8th Place Finish at HCC Meet

The young Brownsburg Swimming & Diving Team put up a tough fight against a deep and talented field on Saturday at the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Championships, coming up with 8th place finishes for both the boys and girls.

Junior Madeline Ketchem was the top performer for either squad, recording a team high 4th place finish in the 100 Butterfly and following that with 8th place in the 200 IM. Ketchem was also a part of two 8th place relays: She teamed with senior Elizabeth Ancel, sophomore Grace Fulwider and freshman Kierra Watson in the 200 Medley Relay, and teamed with Watson, junior Erin Miller and sophomore Chloe Wittig in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Wittig finished 12th in the 500 Freestyle. And Fulwider scored points for the Dogs in both of her individual events as well, finishing 12th in the 100 Breaststroke and 15th in the 200 IM. She also teamed with Ancel, Miller and Wittig for 8th in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

Captain Joel Paquin continued his strong senior campaign as the top performer for the Dogs, finishing 9th in the 500 Freestyle and 11th in the 200 Freestyle. Paquin also contributed to a pair of 8th place relay finishes: He teamed with junior Kasey Cross, sophomore Donnie Spencer and freshman Kyle Baney in the 200 Freestyle Relay and finished the meet with sophomore Grant Anspach and freshmen Joe Ancel and Diego LaTorre in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Ancel and LaTorre both scored in their individual events: LaTorre finished 10th in the 50 Freestyle and 11th in the 100 Backstroke, while Ancel finished 12th in the 100 Breaststroke and 15th in the 100 Freestyle. Ancel, Anspach, Baney and LaTorre finished 8th in the 200 Medley Relay.
