2nd Place Finish for Tennis

2nd Place Finish for Tennis

The boys' varsity tennis team competed in a talent-laden HCC tournament featuring four top-ranked teams.  The purple team placed second to HSE in a nail-biting finish.  In the final round, the Bulldogs were enmeshed in four tie-breaks to determine match outcome and eventual tournament champion.  The 'Dogs knew it was going to be a fierce battle going into the tournament, and they battled at an unbelievablelevel on every court.  Sam Gentry was runner-up in the number one singles position and earned All-HCC honors.  He lost in a tie-break to a previously unbeated HCC foe from HSE.  Jon Class was runner-up at the number two singles position, losing in a tie-break to another unbeaten HCC player from HSE.  Class also earned All-Conference honors.  Sam Peterson did a fine job, finishing in fourth place at three singles.  The number one doubles squad of Nathan Mehringer and Nick Wilde lost in a very tight tie-break in the final round, nearly avenging a loss earlier in the week to Fishers.  They finished in fourth place as well.  The doubles team of Michael Clemens and Todd Clark came home conference champions, earning the top spot with a big win over Zionsville!  Clemens and Clark were also designated All-Conference.

The JV tennis team will compete at home on Tuesday against North Central, and both varsity and JV will travel to Plainfield and play #7 Terre Haute South on Wednesday at 4:30.
