Boys Win and Girls Place 3rd at Southport Invitational

Congratulations to the boys' cross-country team, champions of the Southport Invitational Saturday by edging 24th-ranked Lawrence North High School by 4 points and county rival Avon by 11. Wyatt Rondot led the Dogs with an impressive 4th-place finish, followed closely by teammates Ben Hendricks and Justin Hays in the top 10. The keys to victory, however, were the performances by 4th and 5th men Alek Minkis and Elliot Shaw, both passing runner after runner and nabbing top 20 finishes to seal the victory. Not to be outdone, Sam Fellers ran his best race of the year by finishing 4th in the JV race, leading the Bulldogs to a 3rd-place finish as a team.

The varsity and JV girls both had 3rd-place finishes as well. Laura Bess was top dog by finishing runner up in the varsity race while Sydney Lesko had a top 10 finish as well. Julia Popenfoose, Rachel Smith, and KJ Gaerke had top 20 finishes and rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring. The JV girls were led by Jill Zimmerman with a big personal record. Jessica Bryzek and Marisa Lozano also had outstanding races, both crushing their season best times.
