Boys' and Girls' Track Compete Against Moorseville and Plainfield

Girls'

The Girls' Track Team brought home a convincing win last night as they scored 73 points against 54 from Plainfield and 39 from Mooresville. Throwers Stephanie Mavunga, Crystal Stowers, Brittney Newson, and Shay Roberson scored many of those points as they took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the shot and 3rd in the discus. Sprinter Bri Smith continued to improve by grabbing 1st place in the 100m and 200m and was closely followed by Flo Akinribade, Constance Staples, Jaquelyn Batayneh, Isabella Zoog, and Alex Smock. Sibong Ncube ran one of her best races of the season to finish 1st in the hurdles, as  well as taking 1st in the high jump. Freshman Claire Hathaway continued to impress in the long jump taking 1st place followed right behind by senior Lauren Markovich in 3rd  with her best jump of the season. Distance runners Julia Popenfoose, Cassidy Brown, Mackenzie Vondersaar, and Kyra Jo Gaerke also put up very important points to help contribute to the victory. Congratulations to entire team on a fantastic night and good luck at the County Meet on Tuesday!

Boys'

The boys' track team placed second yesterday in a three-way meet with Plainfield and Mooresville, scoring 63 points to Plainfield's 80 points and Mooresville's 24 points. The Bulldogs' Jeremy Shupperd stole the show, however, by winning three individual events and placing second in his fourth event. That achievement paled in comparison, though, to his new school record in the 110 high hurdles! His time of 15.15 seconds knocked a full 2/10 of a second off of a record that had stood since 1979! Jeremy was also victorious in the 300 m hurdles and high jump and was runner-up in the long jump competition. Other individual winners on the evening were David LaPerle in the pole vault (tying his teammate Kevin Albert at 12'6" for the top height); the 400 relay team of Lismon, O'Neal, Akinribade, & Mercer; and the 1600 m relay team of Kouton, Dotlich, Britton, and Edwards.
