Sectional Champions!

The varsity boys' tennis team received the sectional trophy Saturday morning after a very, very solid and disciplined 5-0 performance against Plainfield.  The Bulldogs advanced to the finals on Saturday after defeating Danville on Friday evening by a 5-0 score.  The singles triplets of Sam Gentry, Nick Wilde, and Jon Class played close to flawless against the Warriors.  Both doubles teams of Michael Hartnagel/Nathan Mehringer and Michael Clemens/Matt Irelan hit their targets quite well and collectively lost just one game.  Irelan did a fine job subbing in at the number two doubles spot.  In the championship match against the Quakers on Saturday, the Dogs were hungry and focused.  The number one doubles duo of Hartnagel/Mehringer were first off the courts with an excellent display of doubles teamwork.  Number three singles player Jonathan Class followed them off after playing a match of great precision.  Sam Gentry played very smart and steady and clinched the championship with a win at the number one spot.  But, the Bulldogs were not done yet.  The number two doubles team of Michael Clemens and Todd Clark refused to let the Quakers gain any momentum and took their match in straight sets.  Nick Wilde, at number two singles, kept the day perfect with another straight set win.  The Dogs will play Tuesday at Avon for the first round of regional play.
