No.13/11 @bhsdogsghoops heads to New Castle for Raymond James HOF Classic

The Brownsburg varsity girls' basketball team will play in the prestigious Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic at the New Castle Fieldhouse on December 27. Brownsburg will take on Penn to tipoff the four-team tournament at 11 a.m. Crown Point and Salem will meet following the opening game.

The losers of Game 1 and Game 2 will play in the Consolation Game at 6 p.m. on Friday. The winners will play for the 2019 Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic Championship at 7:45 p.m.

Brownsburg comes in with a 9-4 record (3-1 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference).

     Bulldog Bits

  • Brownsburg is coming off a 50-49 loss to top-ranked Lawrence North on December 21
  • The Bulldogs are ranked No.7 in the latest edition of the Jeff Sagarin Indiana High School Girls' Basketball Ratings
  • Per the Sagarin's, Brownsburg has the best strength of schedule of any team playing at the Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic this year
  • Allison Bosse surpassed the 1,000-career scoring mark in the third quarter of Brownsburg's loss to Lawrence North last weekend; she is the ninth player in program history to score 1,000 career points
  • Mackenzie Stien has posted double figure scoring performances in each of Brownsburg's last three games; it's just the second time in her Brownsburg career where she has reached double figure scoring in three consecutive games

     HOF Classic Field – Quick Hitters

The four teams that will vie for the 2019 Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic Championship combine for a 47-5 record this season. Each of the four teams are rated among the top-20 in the latest Sagarin Ratings.

     Penn

  • 13-0 record this year (4-0 in Northern Indiana Conference)
  • Rankings: No.7 (ICGSA 4A), No.4 (IBCA), No.10 (Sagarin's)
  • Coming off a 48-41 win over South Bend Washington on December 20
  • 64-3 record since the start of the 2017-2018 season
  • The Quakers have held every opponent this season to under 50 points
  • Led by 5-foot-7 junior Trinity Clinton (17.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 3.3 apg and 2.6 spg)

     Crown Point

  • 15-0 record this year (4-0 in Duneland Conference)
  • Rankings: No.3 (ICGSA 4A), No.2 (IBCA), No.3 (Sagarin's)
  • Coming off a 71-39 win over Lake Central on December 20
  • 43-1 record over the last two seasons
  • Led by 5-foot-7 sophomore Jessica Carrothers (21.1 ppg, 3.8 apg and 4.7 spg)
  • Dash Shaw (13.2 ppg) and Abby Stoddard (11.5 ppg) also have double figure scoring averages

     Salem

  • 10-1 record this season (4-1 in Mid-Southern Conference)
  • IHSAA Class 3A program located in Southeastern Indiana
  • Rankings: No.3 (ICGSA 3A), No.16 (IBCA), No.18 (Sagarin's)
  • Coming off a 62-31 win over Floyd Central on December 21
  • Led by junior guard Hope Tomlinson, sophomore Karly Sweeney and 6-foot-2 junior Letti Nice (No stats have been published for the Lions)

     Back at the HOF Classic

This year will mark just the second-ever appearance for the Bulldogs in the Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic. Brownsburg also participated back in 2010 came away with the tournament championship. Former Bulldog Stephanie Mavunga was crowned Tournament MVP.

Brownsburg defeated Jeffersonville, the eventual 2011 IHSAA Class 4A Girls' Basketball State Champion, by a score of 44-32 in their opening game. Mavunga scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs while Ryne Carr pitched in 11 of her own.

In the title game Brownsburg took down Evansville Memorial, the eventual 2011 IHSAA Class 3A Girls' Basketball State Champion, by a 51-41 margin. Mavunga notched a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards in the win.
