Girls' Soccer Plays Center Grove to a Tie

In a sea of pink shirts and pink hair bows the girls varsity soccer team made their way to the game field for a tough match-up with MIC powerhouse, Center Grove. Senior Sophie McFarland initiated a "Heading for the cure!" night, to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The excitement and intensity of the evening had Brownsburg fired up for a chance to protect their home turf.

The Bulldogs were ready from the first whistle and connected on several short passes to draw first blood on the Trojan defense, only 20 seconds into the match. Isabella Zoog took a blazing shot from the right side of the field to be deflected by the Trojan keeper. The keeper was caught way too far off her line to make any attempt on the second shot, and goal, by Sydne Dryer. Dryer's shot ignited the Bulldog offense to keep possession throughout the match. Center Grove's quick transitions and strong front runners kept the Bulldog defense of Alex Neuman, Mikaela Caron, Sophie McFarland, Taylor Risser, Amanda Dotlich, and Sydney Marette fully engaged during the entire 80 minutes of play.

The Bulldog's own ninja, goalkeeper Kassy Christy, came up with 14 huge saves, as Center Grove relentlessly attacked at any opportunity they found. The midfield transitions were handled with solid play from Dryer, Zoog, Neuman, and Kaylie Simpkiss. Several scoring threats were made by attacking players Kamarin Witham, Taliah Borom, and Carli Hoover.

With the score tied at half, Center Grove charged full force into the final 40 minutes of the game. The Trojans scored for a second time, leaving the Bulldogs to pull together, and create an offensive threat with Masey Bunn at the lead. Bunn took four shots and landed one crucial goal with two minutes remaining on the clock. The Bulldogs should be extremely proud of their 80 full minutes of determination, holding a top twenty team to a 2-2 tie.

The girls travel to Lafayette Jefferson for an HCC match-up against the Bronchos, on Wednesday evening. Go dogs!
