Strong Showing for Swim/Dive at HRH County Tournament

The Bulldog Swimming & Diving Team pulled out all the stops versus all of their local rivals on Saturday at the Hendricks County Invitational at Plainfield. Freshman Jack Franzman made a strong County debut winning two championships and helping break a school record in the 400 Freestyle Relay as the boys were runners up to state powerhouse Avon. Junior Madison Kehr led the girls to a third place finish with the rival Plainfield Quakers less than 20 points ahead.

"County is the halfway point of our season and given the time of the year, can be a mixed bag," Head Coach Josh Saylor said. "The kids are tired and stressed from finals, but excited about the holidays and Christmas break. That excitement won the day as we had several performances that exceeded expectations. I was very pleased with our effort."

Franzman won the 50 Freestyle and led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 Freestyle with seniors Cameron Howard and Joe Ancel. Franzman and Howard would team with senior Kyle Baney and junior Vince Partlow on the 400 Freestyle Relay team that broke the school record (3:12.70) in a tight runner-up finish to Avon. The same quartet also finished second in the 200 Freestyle Relay in another close duel with the Orioles. Individually, Partlow was the runner-up in the 200 and 500 Freestyle and Baney was the runner-up in the 100 Butterfly. Ancel teamed with seniors Diego La Torre and Adam Moll and sophomore Frank Schoemer for second place in the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore Justin Garnett made an impressive debut in an 11-dive meet, finishing second in diving.

The Dogs had additional strong showings from seniors Jimmy Breedlove (8th, 200 IM) and Chad Hale (7th, 500 Freestyle), sophomore Andrew Fulwider (6th, 100 Breaststroke) and freshmen Braden Jackson (7th, 100 Butterfly, 100 Breaststroke), Grant Kent (7th, Diving), Kyle Stankovich (6th, Diving) and Jacob Wilson (9th, 500 Freestyle).

Kehr narrowly missed a County championship in the 100 Freestyle, settling for second place, and teaming with seniors Clarice Cross and Kierra Watson and freshman Bailey LaPaugh for second in the 200 Medley Relay. Kehr, LaPaugh, Watson and junior Piper Lovett were third in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Individually, Watson was the runner-up in the 100 Backstroke and sophomores Danielle LeClerc (Diving) and AJ Moll (500 Freestyle) picked up third place finishes.

Cross, Lovett, Moll and senior Megan Wolf finished fourth in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Additional top finishes were turned in by seniors Brianna LaPaugh (8th, 200 IM), Ashly Kraatz (10th, 100 Butterfly) and Alyssa Smock (16th, 50 & 100 Freestyle), sophomores Karsyn Hopper (8th, 500 Freestyle) and Kaylee Propst (8th, 100 Backstroke) and freshmen Kayla Cromer (7th, Diving), Ava Davidson (11th, 100 Breaststroke) and Annabelle Ketchem (9th, 100 Breaststroke).

The Dogs will return to action on Tuesday, December 30, traveling to North Central to take on a stacked field at 1pm at the Panther Invitiational.
