Eagles Swim Past Bulldogs

The Bulldog Swimming & Diving Team took on the deep and talented Zionsville Eagles Tuesday night at the Bulldog Aquatic Center. The Dogs fought tooth and nail but eventually succumbed to the Eagles, with the girls falling to 3-1 on the season by the score of 135-53, and the boys starting their season 0-1 by the score of 108-78.
"There are no excuses to be made, Zionsville was just a better team tonight," Head Coach Josh Saylor said. "But our biggest goal was to compete for every point and every place against a top shelf team and we did that. I feel like we will only get better from this point."
For the girls, junior Madison Kehr was the lone winner on the night, touching first in the 200 Freestyle. Kehr also finished second in the 500 Freestyle with sophomore AJ Moll right behind in 3rd. Senior Kierra Watson recorded runner-up finishes in the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke, and teamed with Kehr, Moll and junior Piper Lovett for second place in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Kehr, Lovett and Watson teamed with senior Clarice Cross for third place in the 200 Medley Relay, while Cross and Moll teamed with senior Megan Wolf and sophomore Kaylee Propst for third in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Lovett had an individual third place in the 50 Freestyle while sophomore Danielle LeClerc led the Bulldog divers with a third place finish.
The Bulldog boys were led by junior triple winner Vince Partlow. Partlow claimed an individual victory in the 500 Freestyle and led a 1-2 sweep of the 200 Freestyle with senior Cameron Howard. Howard and Partlow teamed with senior Kyle Baney and freshman Jack Franzman to win the 200 Freestyle Relay. The same quartet finished second in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Franzman made a strong high school debut, tangling with Zionsville state champion Kyle DeCoursey and getting a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Baney was second in the 100 Butterfly, and the team of seniors Joe Ancel, Diego La Torre and Adam Moll and Frank Schoemer finished second in the 200 Medley Relay. La Torre (100 Backstroke) and Schoemer (100 Breaststroke) picked up individual second places as well.
The Bulldog diving team ushered in a new era as four competitors - sophomore Justin Garnett and freshmen Grant Kent, Andrew Lehn and Kyle Stankovich - all made their career debuts. Garnett led the charge with a third place finish.
"When you look at the boys team and girls team, and their swimmers and divers together, Zionsville is probably the most complete team we will see all year," Saylor said. "We have nothing to hang our heads about and plenty of positives to build from. If we can compete with a team like this, we can compete with anyone."
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, December 9, traveling to the "bird bath" for a 5:30pm clash with crosstown rival Avon.
