Bulldogs Split with Quakers

The Bulldog Swimming & Diving Team reentered dual meet competition for the first time since before Christmas on Tuesday, traveling to Plainfield to take on the Hendricks County rival Quakers. The BHS boys engineered a dominating 131-52 victory while the girls fought hard but were edged out 96-90.
"We experimented with some different events tonight with both teams," Head Coach Josh Saylor said. "After three invitationals in a row where we put a pretty similar lineup out there, and with the championships and all of that pressure coming up fast, I thought it was important to mix it up a bit. That lent itself to some great racing and some quality performances."
The Bulldog boys won 10 of 12 events in a convincing performance, including a sweep of the relay events. Seniors Kyle Baney, Jimmy Breedlove, Cameron Howard and Adam Moll won the 200 Medley Relay, while Breedlove joined senior Diego La Torre, junior Vince Partlow and sophomore Frank Schoemer on the victorious 200 Freestyle Relay. Seniors Joe Ancel and Chad Hale and freshmen Jack Franzman and Jack Lukens closed the meet with a victory in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Ancel (50 Freestyle), Franzman (200 Freestyle) and Schoemer (100 Breaststroke) all claimed individual wins on the night. Howard and Hale finished 1-2 in the 100 Butterfly, Baney and Lukens finished 1-2 in the 500 Freestyle, while Partlow led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 IM with freshman Braden Jackson and sophomore Andrew Fulwider backing him up. The Dogs also pulled off a sweep of diving, with sophomore Justin Garnett and freshmen Andrew Lehn and Grant Kent taking the top 3 spots.
The girls were led by senior Kierra Watson and juniors Madison Kehr and Piper Lovett, all double winners on the night. Kehr took top honors in the 500 Freestyle, Watson won the 100 Breaststroke and Lovett teamed with sophomore AJ Moll for a 1-2 sweep of the 100 Backstroke. Kehr, Lovett, Moll and Watson teamed to win the 400 Freestyle Relay, while freshman Bailey LaPaugh touched the wall first in the 200 IM.
Additional strong swims were turned in by senior Alyssa Smock in the 200 Freestyle, sophomore Kaylee Propst in the 200 & 500 Freestyle, freshman Ava Davidson in the 200 & 100 Freestyle and sophomore Karsyn Hopper and freshman Annabelle Ketchem in relay competition.
The Dogs return to action on Tuesday, January 20, hosting the Ben Davis Giants at 6pm at the Bulldog Aquatic Center.
