Several Boys Advance to State T&F Meet

The Bulldog boys track team traveled to Lafayette Jefferson last night to compete in the IHSAA Regional Track Meet. The boys finished in 5th place, scoring a total of 54 points. In the field events, the Thomas brothers led the Bulldogs. Freshman Pierce Thomas won the Long Jump with a leap of 22-9.25 and Junior Reis Thomas finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 157-3. Both Pierce and Reis will compete next week in the State Track Meet. The big surprise of the night for the Bulldogs came from the high jump. Marcos cleared 6-5, which was a 4-inch PR. Marcos finished second in the competition and will compete at state.

The Bulldogs had a successful night on the track as well. Bryce Kirtz was the Regional Runner-Up in the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.09. Shai Sumpter-Bey was fifth in the 100 meter dash and 7th in the 200 meter dash. Leigh Nutall finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. All three of those competitors moved in their events. The 4x100 meter relay team of Leigh Nutall, Jack Parker, Andrew Tetrick, and Shai Sumpter-Bey finished 4th. They broke the school record running 42.62 and they will compete next week at the state meet. The 4x800 relay team of Christian Hammerly, Tyler Nolan, Bryan Lomax, and Alex Freeman ran a season best 8:07.94 and finished 7th. Tyrone Griffin finished fifth in the 300 meter hurdles running a lifetime best 40.19. The Bulldogs will travel to Indiana University next weekend to compete at the IHSAA State Meet.
