Bulldogs Compete at Zionsville Invite

The Bulldog boys varsity track and field team traveled to Zionsville on Friday night to compete in the Zionsville Invitational. In a loaded field of teams, the boys scored 74 points and finished in 4th place. The Bulldogs were a mere 3 points away from the 3rd place Westfield team. In the field events, Pierce Thomas finished 2nd in the long jump leaping 22'6.6". His older brother, Reis Thomas, finished 5th in the discus with a toss of 137'8". On the track, the boys were led by Bryce Kirtz. Bryce won the 100 meter dash in a lifetime best of 11.07. He later finished 2nd in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.24 which is also a lifetime best. Shai Sumpter-Bey finished 2nd in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.15 and 4th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.73. Pierce Thomas finished 7th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 52.75. That time was good enough to break the 31 year old Freshman school record in the event. Tyrone Griffin was 8th in the 300 meter hurdles in a new lifetime best time of 41.69 seconds. The 4x800 meter relay team of Alex Freeman, Tyler Nolan, Chuck Voglewede, and Christian Hammerly ran a season best 8:23.49 to finish 5th. The 4x100 meter relay team of Leigh Nutall, Jack Parker, Shai Sumpter-Bey, and Trey Fisher finished 2nd in a time of 43.53. In the final event of the night, the 4x400 meter relay team of Trey FIsher, Jack Parker, Shai Sumpter-Bey, and Bryce Kirtz placed 3rd in a season best time of 3:26.8. The boys will be back on the track Tuesday when they travel to Avon for a dual against the Orioles.
