Bulldogs 2-0 on The Weekend

Bulldogs 2-0 on The Weekend

As the first semester at Brownsburg schools came to an end Friday, the boys basketball team travelled to county rival Avon to take on the Orioles in the first HCC contest of the season.  The first half both teams played sluggishly but the Bulldogs were able to pull away for a 24-16 halftime lead.  Spurts of good play lead by a tenacious defense allowed the Dogs to take the halftime lead.  Brownsburg erupted for 50 second half points to cruise to a 71-54 victory.  KJ Walton lead the team with 29 points, including four dunks and four three pointers.  Scoring was very balanced as Jordache Mavunga(9), Darrian Ringo(9,) Tyler Kirtz(8), and Landon Hall(7) chipped in as the Bulldogs shot a sizzling 65% from the field.  Jordache Mavunga and Landon Hall both had 5 rebounds to lead the team.  Ringo, Kirtz and Mavunga had 2 steals a piece to pace the defense which caused the host team many rushed or contested shots.  Great turnout by both schools students and communities made for a great atmosphere.  Television coverage from the Indy Stations provided great highlights as fans and families returned just in time for the evening news.

Saturday the Boys basketball team made a short trip to Ben Davis for battle of west side powers.  Both teams coming off of rugged Friday conference games and facing stingy defenses struggled to a first quarter score of 6-5 with Brownsburg squeezing out the one point lead.  A game that was highly contested but roughly played, only a true basketball enthusiast could appreciate the 17-16 halftime score with the host taking the one point halftime lead.  Both teams defenses were stellar, but offensive execution and ability to find the bottom of the net, frustrated fans, players and coaches alike.  The Bulldogs came out similar to their Friday night efforts and doubled their first half scoring in taking a 10 point lead late in the third quarter and finishing the evening with a 47-34 victory.  Holding the host Giants to 34 points was quite and accomplishment and again the bulldogs found toughness when it counted.  Darrian Ringo sparked a 5 point run by hitting a huge 3 pointer and then stealing a Ben Davis pass to assist a transition lay-up.  Michael Fowlkes and Ringo had many deflections that lead to critical Ben Davis turnovers.  Very balanced scoring as the Bulldogs patiently worked their offense against the Ben Davis zone.  KJ Walton lead the team with 17 points followed by Jordache Mavunga's 12 points and six rebounds.  Darian Ringo, Fowlkes, and Landon Hall each had 6 points.  The team has a few days before Christmas to enjoy the 6-1 start to their season and prepare for the City Securities Hall of Fame Classic next Saturday.  Get your tickets at the athletic office this week, don't miss out on one of the state's most exciting tournaments.

Merry Christmas to all Bulldog fans, students and community members.  Safe travels to you and your families and GO DOGS!!!
