Bulldogs Down Sparkplugs
The Bulldogs started the season off on the right foot with a 9-4 victory over the Speedway Sparkplugs. Ty McCoy started the game for the Dogs and gave 3 solid innings before handing the game over to junior RHP Michael Klayer. Klayer contributed an inning and 1/3 before junior LHP Triston Polley entered the game to finish the final 2 and 2/3, striking out the final 3 batters of the game to seal the deal. Klayer (1-0) collected the win and Polley (1) collected his first varsity save. At the plate, the Bulldogs got off to a quick start, scoring junior OF Anthony Travelsted on a single up the middle by junior 3B Jacson McGowan. The Dogs offense slowed a bit, picking up 1 run in the 3rd before falling behind to the Plugs 3-2 going into the top of the 5th. In the 5th, junior C Brooks Bireley ignited the offense with a 3-run HR to right (1st varsity HR for Bireley). The Dogs tacked on a few more runs in the 6th and 7th to end the game 9-4. Offensively, the Dogs were led by McGowan (3-4, 3 RBIs), Travelsted (2-3, 4 Runs), and senior OF Tyler Westrich (3-4)
