Stephanie Mavunga Named 2013 Indiana Miss Basketball

Media members and coaches from across the state have selected Stephanie Mavunga as the 2013 Indiana Miss Basketball! The Brownsburg High School 6-foot-4 senior forward averaged 23.0 points, 13.4 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game this past season, leading the Bulldogs (20-4) to the Class 4A regional semifinals. Mavunga is a McDonald's All-American Game selection, Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year for 2011-12 and 2012-13, a WBCA All-American Game honoree and has twice received Indiana Basketball Coaches Association All-State recognition. She concluded her prep basketball career with 1,739 points and 984 rebounds.

Mavunga has maintained a 3.40 GPA in the classroom. A member of the Brownsburg High student government, she has volunteered locally as a church aide and as a youth basketball coach and mentor. Mavunga has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball on an athletic scholarship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill beginning this fall.

Mavunga joins an elite group of former Bulldogs to make the Indiana All-Stars, including: brother Julian Mavunga (2008), Gordon Hayward (2008), Lauren Taylor (2008), Eric Riggs (1995), Craig Brunes (1992), Amy Brauman (1991) and Judy Cummings (1979). She is the first BHS athlete to wear the #1 All-Star jersey.
