Bulldogs Celebrate Homecoming Win
The varsity football team wrapped up a spirited homecoming week with an exciting overtime win versus a talented Westfield team 29-28. After a defensive stop on Westfield's first possession, the Bulldogs drove the field and scored on a 16 yard TD pass from Hunter Johnson to Bryce Kirtz. The Shamrocks scored the next two touchdowns of the game making the score 14-6 with under 5 minutes to play in the first half. The Bulldog offense got the ball on their own 2 yard line after a punt and proceeded to march down the field and finished the drive with a TD when Johnson found Antrez Baker for a two yard touchdown reception. Johnson found with Kyle Strakis for the two point conversion to tie the score at 14 heading into the half. The two teams traded scores in the third quarter, the bulldogs scoring on Johnson's third TD pass of the night, this time, an 18 yard pass to Eli Johnson. At the end of regulation, both teams were tied at 21. Brownsburg won the overtime coin toss and elected to play defense. The Shamrocks scored on their first play and converted the extra point to take a 7 point lead. On 3rd and goal, Hunter Johnson plunged into the end zone from a yard out to set up a crucial extra point attempt. After drawing the Shamrocks offsides, the bulldogs elected to line up for a two point conversion to win the game. Carson Gill took the handoff and dove into the end zone for the winning score. The defense was challenged by the best rushing offense in the conference and rose to the occasion with four players totaling 8 or more tackles. Nathan Walton and Isaac McCormick continue to be leaders of the defense, totaling 9 and 8 tackles each. Devin Parrot and Cooper Mroz have continued to improve as the season enters its second half and also totaled 9 and 8 tackles each on Friday night. In what could be argued as the play of the night, Nathan Walton shot through the end of the Shamrocks field goal formation and blocked what would have been the game winning field goal. The Bulldogs will look to stay perfect on the season as they travel to Zionsville next Friday night.
