Scouting Hamilton Southeastern

There seems to be no hotter team in the state right now than the Royals. Hamilton Southeastern enters Friday riding an 11-game win streak, having not lost a game since Jan. 10 to No. 3 Lawrence Central. After starting their season 4-5, their win streak has helped them to a 15-5 record this year. The Royals are coming off a season-defining win against No. 11 Carmel, hitting free-throws with under 10 seconds left to win 62-61. HSE is right behind the Dogs at second place in the HCC standings, with a 4-2 conference record. All four of their conference wins have come during the winning streak.

The Royals are led by junior Vinny Buccilla, who averages 12.4 points per game. He's had 14 double-digit scoring performances, including putting up 11 against Carmel. HSE also has some size coming from 7'2 senior Mabor Majak, averaging 11.5 points and 10.4 rebounds. Majak has been a huge scoring help during the winning streak, scoring in double-digit figured in 9 of the eleven-straight wins.

Series History

In the past 22 meetings, these two teams have split the series 11-11 since the '97-'98 season. Brownsburg is currently on a three-game winning streak against HSE, with the Royals' last win over the Dogs happening on Feb. 19th, 2016. The last time these two conference opponents met at HSE, the Bulldogs won 57-54 on Feb. 16th, 2018. Last year, Malek Edmonds put up 19 points in a 70-54 win over the Royals at Varsity Fieldhouse.
