Bulldogs Advance to Face Avon
The Bulldogs opened up sectional play last night with an exciting 13-10 victory of Plainfield. The Bulldog offensive sprinted out of the gate with a big 5 run first inning to put them up 5-2 and the bats didn't cool off the rest of the game. In the fourth inning the Dogs tacked on 2 more runs on an RBI single from Charlie Brewer to run the score up to 7-3. The Quakers were able to put up 4 in the 5th but the Dogs replied with a RBI bunt from Chase Haynes and an RBI double from Tyler Bireley to keep some distance on the scoreboard at 10-7. In the seventh, Charlie Brewer supplied another RBI single scoring two runs for the Dogs and Sam Hughes had an RBI single to take the score to 13-7. The Quakers threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but Brandon Reid was able to shut down the Plainfield rally after 3 runs to collect the save and the victory for the Dogs. Logan Kabrich collected the win on the mound after throwing 4 innings and only allowing 2 hits. Jaret Starnes, Tyler Bireley and Brandon Reid combined for the final 3 innings out of the pen. The Bulldogs advance to round 2 of the sectional on Monday morning at 10am and will face Avon.
