Braves Defeat Brownsburg

The Bulldogs dropped a well-fought nonconference ballgame to the Brebeuf Braves last night 2-1.  Similar to this past weekend, the Bulldogs found themselves in a pitching duel early.  The Braves were able to scratch 1 run across in the bottom of the first inning on a couple good hits, but junior RHP Tyler Bireley quickly shut down any hopes of a big inning.  The score remained 1-0 until the Braves stole a cheap run off of the Dogs on a curveball in the dirt that got away to push the score to 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th.  In the top of the 5th, Luis Escalante was able to score for the Bulldogs after a leadoff single to begin the inning to put it to 2-1.  In the top of the 7th, the Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs, but a well-defended play at the plate by Brebeuf ended the Dogs rally and the game.  Tyler Bireley pitched an excellent game and Logan Kabrich came in during the 6th to get Bireley out of a jam.  Offensively, the Bulldogs struggled to find timely hits to push runners across.  The Bulldogs move to 7-5 (3-3 HCC) and will take a few days off before heading to Westfield on Thursday for a critical HCC matchup.
